Hello All,
It's late on Sunday evening or rather its early on Monday morning and I think the fact that at 5 AM this Friday I will be heading south a few thousand miles, spending some quality time in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, learning a few things, then heading back home, has finally become a realization.
The purpose of this blog is to keep you all posted on the whereabouts and actions, between the dates of August 26th and December 18th, of a very prominent and important person: me. As to the fact that there will be a lack of the more conventional forms of communication and media to keep all of you up to date on the doubtless numerous adventures and escapades in which I encounter myself, I have decided to create this blog, a virtual buffet of all things Jimmy Sweeney, of which I personally prepare and set out once, maybe twice weekly, for you all to metaphorically feast. You can even leave your comments at the bottom, but be forewarned that only praiseworthy or overly enthusiastic comments will be heeded. Please keep your criticism to yourselves.
The title of the blog of course is a reference to Saturday Night Live's "Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy". Although I do not intend to bore you with sentimentality, if by chance I decide to put some serious thought into any of my posts, you will read it. And by God you will be moved!
In fact here is one of those serious notes: I will miss all my friends, or most of you at least. I will miss Wisconsin and Eau Claire, in particular, although without me being there I can't imagine it will be that great anyway. I am excited to learn to speak Spanish fluently, mostly so that when I get back and you ask me how to say this or that in Spanish, I can reply with something completely false and likely inappropriate. Most of all I will miss a potential Brewers playoff run!
In an actual serious note I really will miss everyone. Thanks for reading and please do leave comments. I am both excited and nervous about it all. Only 4 more days!

And by the way ... if you knew two guys and one was named Flippy and one was named Hambone, who do you think would like dolphins more? I'd say Flippy, wouldn't you? You'd be wrong though. It's Hambone.
